Surface area and porosimetry

Adsorption is the accumulation of atoms or molecules on the surface of a material; when the interactions between molecules and surfaces originate from the “physical” Van der Waals interaction we speak of physisorption.
Suiting this phenomenon, it is possible to derive information about the surface area and the porosity of a material. In particular, measuring the gas adsorption isotherms, which show the amount of gas adsorbed in the sample as a function of its pressure at constant temperature.
